Susan (Steele) Henderson is a native of Madison, AL and attended Bob Jones High School.  She graduated from Auburn University Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental and Choral Music Education in 2009.  During her time at Auburn, she studied euphonium with Dr. Rick Good and Dr. Matt Wood, voice with Jeff Gilbreath, and conducting with Dr. Rick Good and Dr. William Powell.  



After serving as the Assistant Band Director at Beulah High School for two years, Mrs. Henderson returned to Auburn where she earned her Master’s Degree in Music Education in 2012, while working as a graduate teaching assistant with the band department.  Upon completion of her Master’s degree, Mrs. Henderson accepted a position as a festival coordinator with Festival Disney at Disney World in Orlando, FL.  After leaving Disney she moved to the Mobile area to become the band director at Citronelle High School where she is now in her seventh year of teaching.

 Throughout her musical career Mrs. Henderson has been fortunate enough to perform across the southeast and also internationally in Germany, Ireland, and China.  Some notable ensembles Mrs. Henderson has been a part of include the Bob Jones Symphonic Band and Winterguard, Madison Community Band, Auburn University Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Chamber Choir, Orchestra, and Jazz Band, Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma National Intercollegiate Band, Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Mobile Symphonic Pops Band.  


In her spare time Mrs. Henderson enjoys going on cruises, cooking, and spending time with her family.  She currently resides in Satsuma, AL with her husband AJ and their various pets.


Mrs. Henderson is a member of the National Association of Music Education, Alabama Bandmaster’s Association, International Tuba and Euphonium Association, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and Women Band Directors International.
